Moms explores a new vulnerability and resiliency within Menomena, a band that's taken change not as an excuse to opt out but instead as a catalyst for growth. It's tragic and intimate, comic and endearing, personal and motivated/5(26).

I might give Moms a few more listens in the future but the initial impressions were disappointing for me. Menomena does sound like itself despite losing a member but I feel like the songwriting here is a lot weaker than on Mines which was one of my favourite albums of "Moms" doesn't feel as varied as the last album and there's hardly anything that sticks.

Menomena at BV SXSW (more by Tim Griffin). As mentioned on BrooklynVegan yesterday, Menomena are planning to release a new album and tour this year. Since then, more details have surfaced regarding the album -- it's called Moms and it's due out 9/18 via Barsuk -- and the tour has been announced in full. It includes a Chicago date on October 19 at Metro.

Menomena are an experimental rock band from Portland, Oregon, made up of Danny Seim on percussion; and Justin Harris on bass, guitar, and saxophone. Both members of the band share singing duties and swap instruments frequently while recording. The band formed in late , when ex-member Brent Knopf graduated from Dartmouth College and returned to Portland to collaborate with Harris .
