Sensual Sound of Sonny Stitt. By exuninivtweedanopdelcomppuncstanin.xyzinfo Back when I was a kid, I lived an hour north of New York City in the country. It wasn’t my choice. My parents moved there from Manhattan in for the space and the public schools. Most friends understood this and complied with my one-LP rule. But one creative Creedence Clearwater Revival fan.

Sonny Stitt established himself on the American jazz scene in the 60's before making an impact on the UK jazz funk scene during the mid's. Prior to these recordings, Sonny Stitt recorded in the 40's for Tiny Bradshaw's band.

Edward Hammond Boatner Jr. (February 2, – July 22, ), known professionally as Sonny Stitt, was an American jazz saxophonist of the bebop/hard bop idiom. Known for his warm tone, he was one of the best-documented saxophonists of his generation, recording more than albums.

He gets a good sound out the lower register approximating the sound of the upper register of the tenor. On the Hard Swing he plays alto sax 7 times and tenor sax 4 times. Pianist Lou Levy gives way to Amos Trice for the second session but Amos doesn't take many solos with Stitt playing the whole track himself most of the time/5(14).

Once in the s I went into Chicago to catch Max Roach's new quartet, which was playing on a Sunday afternoon at Joe Segal's "Jazz Showcase" (at the time located in the Brown Shoe on N. Wells St.). Sonny Stitt was in the audience (Sonny was truly ubiquitous, continually popping up in various cities even when I wasn't looking for him)/5(17).
